Force close problems on Android VIber 2.1.3 update? We have a fix.

 Viber, is a popular cross platform VOIP app. An update dated February 20, 2012 has caused problems for some users. When trying to launch the app, you get a force closed error. 

I encountered similar problems. The update killed Viber on my HTC Desire HD (Un-rooted, Stock 2.3.5 ROM). It forced close on launch. But I found a fix.

Go to Settings ---> Applications ---> Viber ---> Than press Clear Data.
Everything works fine after that. You will have to register again and will lose any saved messages. Pretty much a minor glitch I am happy to live with.

Okay, now for the good news. For Ice Cream Sandwich users, Viber 2.1.3 is now ICS compatible. Enjoy.

    I have to say that Viber always stuff up in a few minutes during call.
    So disappointed

  5. i have a samsung galaxy and i have been using viber on it for a while now. All of a sudden when i click on a chat with my friend it stops unexpectedly and force closes. So im unable to read the messages with my friend. It only happens with this particular contact. Viber works perfectly fine when i talk to everyone else.
    Im not sure if its doing this because i havent updated the app, but im affraid that if i update it will delete my conversations. And i dont want it to. Becasue i havent seen the messages from my friend yet.

    If anyone else has the same problems, please let me know or help me out, thanks

    1. If you are worried about your message history being deleted, you may Export it to a text file using Viber's "Export" feature, found in settings.
      Now, please make sure that both users haev the latest version of Viber installed. If the problem persists after making sure of this, please let me know.

  6. Viber please help and fix things out I want my viber back... Non of the solutions worked for me since I last updated and its always force closing once I attempt to make or receive a call. Tried uninstall and reinstallin, cleared data, and even searched for and installed older versions but all no use i reported force close almost 70 times over the last 3 days... Thanks

  7. Hey, i was looking at this viber app at my friends phone and I figured out tht it was occupy lot of memory about 1.47gb of memory ,is it favourable to install tht app wen i have only 200 mb left? Will clearing data remove all mesages i mean is there any way to back up?

      Yes, removing your message history should free some space for you.
      Before you do that, we recommend to export your message history, using the "Export" option inside Viber's settings.

  8. Hi i have the same problem "Force close" but when i try to call anyone on Viper... This happened after the last update on January 2013... I have Samsung tap7 plus GT-P 6200.. an i have Android version 3.2...

    I deleted the data then when I register he didn't send me code when when he call me I entered the code he says that the code is wrong ! So , I entered my mother's phone number he send the SMS i entered the code he says wrong . Then he called her phone . Then , I entered the code he says wrong . So , what shall I do ?

      Please try removing Viber, wait 24 hours, reinstall and try again (make sure you try both the SMS and the automated call options).

      In addition, you may try to register to Viber with a different number (for example - your home landline number, a friend's number, etc.), in order to determine whether the problem is specific with your number, or a general one.

    I am facing this problem from January 2013 force close problem i could not open it even cant read my messages nor can make calls due to this problem.

    Every time I try to "email message history" i get a force close message...

    I am using viber on my HTC Desire HD, with Android v2.3.5, and viber build 2.3.2

    I would be very grateful if you could let me know how to resolve this!

      Viber does not officially support Tablets yet, and so we can't fully guarantee that it would work on all Tablets.
      However, in the meantime you can still download Viber from PlayStore, or from the direct link in our official HelpDesk at http://bit.ly/rqbZEw . Try it out and we would be happy to receive your feedback on how it works on your device so we could improve Viber accordingly.

  16. i have been able to receive pictures using viber however, i really cannot send pictures. :( please help. iam using myphone a888 and the os is ice cream sandwich 4.0

  17. Viber never launches on HTC desire running 2.2, have to force close, has never worked, either when stored on phone or SD card, can't clear data as there is none. Have tried re-instal but no difference.

      Unfortunately, it will not be possible to retrieve those lost messages, since we (Viber) do not keep our users' message history on our servers - we care about our users' privacy.
      We recommend to use our “Export message history” function every once in a while, in order to make sure that those messages are backed up.

  22. I downloaded Viber on my Galaxy Ace running android 2.3.6. inmediately after i inserted my phone number, i got the "application has stopped unexpectedly" msg. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but problem persists.

    Viber is working great in My Lenovo a706 aside from when i use calls, they cant hear me. I tried calling them with regular calls and it works fine. maybe some of the users experience this too. i would be grateful to hear from you soon.

  24. I recently updated viber on my Sony Ericsson android device. I've been using viber since December last year with no problems. After the new update it keeps crashing my phone and every time I attempt to send a message my android tells me it has to 'force close'. Can you advise why this is happening and what I should do?

  28. i am using alcatel one touch. and it originally has built in viber. i deleted it. and now i cant seem to use my phone because it constantly flashes "unfortunately, viber has stopped" the only option is "force close" and when i press it, it reappears immediately after. what do i do? it bugs me. please help me!!
