Looking for an all-around power portable laptop?

Looking for a all-around power portable. For all around use, so that it can be your carry laptop and your every day PC we we like a screen that is at least 12.5 inches in size . By powerful, we are looking for one with an Intel Core i3 or i5 Sandy Bridge processor or better. By portable, we are looking for one weighing in not more than 5 pounds. Here is a run down of the units available in the Philippines.

14" Acer TimelineX 4830T - 4.9 lbs. (has an optical drive, Nvidia GeForce GT540M graphics)
MSRP Php 46,990

Apple MacBook Air. The cheapest laptop at 3 pounds or less, and this makes 0.8 pounds lighter than anything cheaper.

The Samsung Series 9 (900X3A) is the lightest, but its specifications are closer to the entry level Apple MacBook Air which is Php14K cheaper. At Php79K, an Apple will give you twice the internal storage of the Samsung (256GB v. 128 GB). The MacBook Air is the standard to beat, but is it the best?

Acer TimelineX 3838T. At 4.1 pounds it is light enough to be carried around, and at Php37K cheap enough not be too long term a commitment.

Bang for the buck. Still Php65+K is a lot of cash, especially for a product that will be replaced by something newer and better in 10 months or less (Ivy Bridge). Those bang looking for a bang the buck 12.5 to 14-inch portable, should take a look at the Acer TimelineX 3830T. At 28K less than the MacBook Air, it leaves enough money next year to sell it and buy the newer model when it comes out. The Lenovo Z470 is cheaper, but is comes with a weaker i3 processor and has no operating system.

Lenovo ThinkPad X220. 12-13c hours of battery life with the bundled 9-cell battery.

Endurance. A MacBook Air will give you 7-8 hours or so of battery life. If you need more juice, the Lenovo ThinkPad X220 will give you 12-13 hours of battery life.

Sony Vaio SB. At the lower end (Php60K) it is a nice balance of performance, weight and price.

More graphics punch. If you are looking to do some light gaming, any of these laptops should do, but those who want to use the laptop for gaming should invest in more graphics power. You can never have enough as you want to runs today's games, as well as tomorrows. Those wanting more graphics punch can look at the Sony Vaio SB or Acer TimelineX 4830T, both of which also come with optical drives. Acer TimelineX 4830T also offers good value at less than Php47K.

Did we miss a model? Please inform us.
