Android had 75% of the Smartphone Market Share in the Third Quarter of 2012



Three out of every four smartphones shipped during the third quarter of 2012 were Android smartphone.  Total worldwide shipments reached 136.0 million units, accounting for 75.0% of the 181.1 million smartphones shipped in the quarter. This also represents a 91.5% year-over-year growth with Android nearly doubling its overall market growth rate of 46.4%.

Apple's iPhone took up 15% of the market, with BlackBerry, Symbian, Windows Phone and Linux sharing the last 10%. 

Windows Phone 7 had a small 2% market share with 3.6 million Windows Phone 7 devices shipping in the quarter, still this represents a 140% increase over the same quarter laster year when 1.5 million Windows Phone were shipped.
