LG Optimus L9 P768

LG has released another one of its L Series Android smartphones, the new model being a 4.7-inch dual core powered phone. The dual core processor is a welcome relief, all previous LG L Series phones in the Philippines being powered by anemic single core ARM Cortex A5 processors. The LG L Series comes with a 1 GHz dual core processor on a TI OMAP 4440 which is a lower clock version of what you have in the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Priced at Php14,590 the LG appears to be priced just about right for what it offers The 4.7-inch display has a qHD (540 x 960) resolution which is still a reasonably sharp 234 pixels per inch.. The phone comes 1 GB of RAM. 4 GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, an 8MP primary camera, a VGA secondary camera and a 2150 mAh battery. In this is stored in a case just 9.1 mm thick. The phone comes with Android 4.0.4 out of the box.

It closest competitors price wise would be the Samsung Galaxy S III mini and the O+ 8.12. The Samsung Galaxy S III mini is a smaller device with a 4-inch display, so I think buyers will pick one or other with depending on which screen size they prefer. The O+ 8.12 has a 4.5-inch qHD display and is priced a lot less at Php11,999. The are also much cheaper 4.5 to 4.7 inch phones from Cherry Mobile, MyPhone and Starmobile, which cost roughly half the price of the LG Optimus L9 P768.

The main reason for selecting the more expensive LG Optimus L9 P768 over the O+ 8.12, and other lower cost offering is the faster PowerVR SGX540 graphics chip found in the L9, as compared to the older PowerVR SGX531 graphics found in the MediaTek powered phones.
