Globe Telecom is offering the Huawei Ascend W1, starting at Plan 499 on a My Best Ever Super Plan. The Ascend W1 is a 4-inch Windows Phone 8 device. It is Huawei's first Windows Phone. With a suggested retail price of Php8,990, is is an excellent deal, given that Globe is basically giving you this phone for a two year contract which just has a Php11,976 commitment.
The low cost Windows Phone 8 devices are interesting. Since Windows Phone only supports limited chipsets, manufacturers are "forced" to use Qualcomm Krait processors in their Windows 8 devices. The Krait use power efficient 28 nanometer processors, as opposed to the 45 nanometer processors you find in most low cost and mid-level smartphones. In addition, the Huawei Ascend W1 has a large 1950 mAh battery, which is much larger than the 1500 mAh battery you normally find on 4-inch phones.
The large battery mated with the power efficient processor promises excellent battery life. All in all, the Huawei Ascend W1 looks to the best smartphone offered on a plan at Php500 or less.
