With a price of Php4,990 the Android powered Globe CloudFone Ice with a 3.2-inch 320 x 480 screen looks like a steal. The Globe CloudFone Ice is actually a Huawei U8500, which was released in 2010.
It runs Android 2.1, Eclair and is not upgradeable to Android 2.2 (Froyo) or Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). While specifications online indicate that this phone runs on Android 2.1, the version being sold by Globe Telecom runs Android 2.2.
These days we only recommend phones running Android 2.2 or higher. Why? Android 2.2 runs 4x faster than Android 2.1. Android 2.2 allows apps to be stored on the SDCard. With Android 2.1, apps can only be installed on the internal memory.
The Globe CloudFone Ice was clearly launched to challenge Smarts Netphone. The Globe CloudFone Ice it is not an equivalent to the Smart Netphone. Smarts Netphone is a new phone with a service package built around it. The Globe CloudFone Ice is really just an obsolete Android phone sold for a low price. Still Php4,990 for an
Android 2.1 device is not bad, but I really would not recommend it. for an Android 2.2 device is not a bad deal.
ReplyDelete
Thanks for the heads up. Android 2.2 would change things a lot. The other specifications, are not so great, with a 600MHz processor and Adreno 200 graphics and 256MB of RAM. Still its only 5K. If it is open line, that would be still be a good deal.ReplyDelete
Linawin ko lang, papi. Itong Cloudfone Ice daw ay Qualcomm MSM7225 600 MHz WITHOUT an Andreno 200 GPU. Para siyang Huawei IDEOS U8150 na Qualcomm MSM7225 528 MHz WITHOUT an Adreno 200 GPU. Yung mga tulad lang ng LG Optimus One, Cherry Mobile Nova & Cosmo at Smart Netphone 701 ang naka Qualcomm MSM7227 600 MHz WITH an Adreno 200 GPU. Sa madaling salita, paps, mas mabagal itong Cloudfone Ice.ReplyDelete
Basically, the makes its specifications similar to the older HTC Wildfire, but running at a faster 600MHz but with 128GB less RAM.ReplyDelete
GSM Arena list the Huawei U8150 as having: "528 MHz ARM 11 processor, Adreno 200 GPU, Qualcomm MSM7225 chipset".
I tried a a U8150 and Angry Birds Rio was sluggish. I think you are right about the MSM7225 not having a GPU.
Still, at 5K the price is hard to beat. Still 1.9k cheaper than the Cosmo (unless that has gone on promo).
hi papi, pede na po ba ito mapa-openline?ReplyDelete
There should be no need to unlock the phone. Buyers have reported that it was open line even if it came from Globe.ReplyDelete
I have my globe cloudfone U8500 just last week and lock to globe network can anyone help me to unlock or to openline it thanks boboiReplyDelete
